CFD Analysis of Low-Cost Solutions to Minimize Gas and Dust Emissions during the Emergency Opening of Blast Furnace Bleeders

The article presents the solution adopted in an existing blast furnace with only two safety valves to minimize dust and gas emissions atmosphere, case of emergency relief due abnormal overpressure during operating issues process. Before implementation system, several openings bleeder were observed: These led sensitive pollutant emissions, also terms acoustic visive events, high impact on surrounding environment. new addition valves, has been engineered a Computational Fluid Dynamic (CFD) analysis using Ansys Fluent find out most effective modifications plant. Few plant modifications, while guaranteeing achievement target reducing openings, allow reduce shutdown costs for themselves maintenance operation simplify logic control systems. installation increased furnace, it drastically reduced openings—4% pre-intervention total opening time per year—and associated spite rise pig iron production, as recorded by monitoring supervision system.
